I just ordered one of these so I could check it out before I ordered enough for my first floor. I am replacing brass ones I got from a big box store that turned out to be brass on top with plastic louvers which broke away after the register had been stepped on by kids a couple too many times. Very pleased - the register is heavy, all metal, and well constructed. It seems quite sturdy enough to be stepped on without bending. It does not look like there are any weak points as these registers are welded or screwed at all points, and the louver wheel moves smoothly. The finish seems to be baked on rather than painted, and is very slightly pebbled - it will not show any little spots that inevitably show up due to a register being on the floor. Note: the quoted measurement is for the floor opening. These look really handsome on my wood floors, are far better quality than anything available locally and priced better than the poor quality ones like those I am replacing - and bottom line: I just ordered 6 more.

The floor grill looks great - just perfect to replace the cheap, beige units the builder installed in my newly built but old looking home. Materials and construction are good. Be aware that if you close them completely they may make a whistling noise. The biggest problem is that of the 6 that I bought, 3 of them don't lay flat across my hardwood floors. No problem in carpeted rooms, but some of them don't seem to be 100% flat. If I push down one end to make it flush with the floor, the other end is raised a bit. I switched them around to different areas to make sure it wasn't the floors. Not a major problem though.
